Insurance Broker’s license granted
On July 14, 2021, the Estonian Financial Supervision Authority (Finantsinspektsioon) officially granted the insurance brokers license to Herrmann, Huebner & Partner. After an application process of 1.5 years, they are now among the first e-Residency companies to receive this license in Estonia.
In the words of founder and managing director Christoph Huebner: “We are happy to finally be in the position where we can help fellow e-Residents and location independent entrepreneurs around the world to cover their insurance needs. Global health insurance for digital nomads is our expertise and passion!”
The two founders, Markus Herrmann and Christoph Huebner, together have accumulated more than four decades of experience in the health insurance sector. Since 2010, they have both been working in their Germany-based company, Leni, Leon & die Luchse, a specialized insurance broker for children’s health insurance consisting of a team of seven working 100% remotely since its founding.
The experiences of Herrmann and Huebner have paved the way for the recent licensing. “Being digital nomads ourselves and running a remote team in this industry gave us a lot of exposure to the needs of the community in the last years,” says Huebner. “I’ve been talking in podcasts and at conferences around the globe and was continuously approached by men and women who were at the beginning of their location independent careers, or by whole nomadic families. That’s why we’ve established this company and the Nomads Insure website.”
According to Huebner, there were several motives for choosing Estonia as the location for incorporating the firm:
We chose Estonia as the place for our incorporation for many reasons. Besides the supportive Nordic business mentality, it was the digital infrastructure and the remote-by-design attitude of the legal framework and business environment. My personal linkage to the e-Residents community and my local networks established in the last couple of years during many long stays in this beautiful part of the world add up to this.
Christoph Huebner
As opposed to agents of insurance companies, Herrmann, Huebner & Partner – along with the brand NOMADS INSURE – are legally on the side of the clients. Markus Herrmann explains their position in the industry:
Through this position, we establish relationships with all major players in the European and global market, like American CIGNA Global Health, French APRIL International or, Foyer from Luxembourg. And we read their conditions thoroughly – to the benefit of our clients! So we can not only find the best fit for their individual needs, plans, and backgrounds but also warn about hidden clauses which we consider harmful or immoral, such as the plans of American Startup ‘Insured Nomads’ ending at age 65, which is basically when you actually start needing reliable health insurance.
